Emergencies
Are you one of our patients who has recently undergone surgery? Do you have concerns about the recovery phase?
Here are some situations you can probably handle yourself:
Pain:
Follow the post-operative instructions you’ve been given. There’s no point in suffering needlessly, so if an analgesic has been suggested that may help, take it. You can always rely on your pharmacist’s expertise if in doubt.
Bleeding:
Following surgery, blood may be present in the mouth for a few hours. If bleeding is more abundant, apply a tea bag or damp cotton compress to the treated area. Keep pressure on this compress for 20 to 30 minutes.
Swelling:
Slight swelling and skin discoloration may appear on the face near the operated area. This may occur 3 to 4 days later. If recommended, apply ice compresses (in a damp cloth) to the face for 15 to 20 minutes, then remove and repeat 60 minutes later, until bedtime. Do not apply ice after 48 hours.
